NCAA March Madness

The pace and endurance needed on a college basketball court demands media teams and networks to keep up or miss opportunities to engage their audiences at the highest levels. Every year, the NCAA Men’s Basketball March Madness comes down to 4 teams fighting for the national championship.

It was a pleasure to be a part of the media team that produced the introduction hype video for the 2018 tournament. We were tasked with hammering home what was at stake and each team’s journey in epic fashion. This was accomplished with a 2 day gauntlet of player interviews, LED and DMX controlled lighting setups, 8 cameras, a slew of extras, and an amazingly quick turnaround.

Light Station was tasked with quality controlling images straight from camera, backing up footage, preparing for the initial color grade and sending everything down the LAN line to the onsite editors.

Another one of the amazing perks of this work is collaborating with technical wizards from all over the country, sometimes the globe. You get in the trenches together, give it everything you have for long hours and then, if you’re lucky, watch your work displayed on a Jumbotron in front of 25,000 screaming fans. Not long after that, the dust settles, the games end and the lights go off… and it’s on to the next one.
